Disciple Reunion Party

null

The first-ever Disciple reunion party took place on October 27. Stephen and I hosted the shindig at our house and Stephen cooked up a 13-pound brisket and a bunch of other Texas food, like beans, jalapeno cornbread and spicy black-eyed-pea dip. It was the perfect day for a kickin’ cookout and it was great to see everyone. My fellow disciples’ friendship and fellowship played such an important and positive role during my pregnancy. They are (clockwise from top left) Frank, Greg (our awesome instructor), moi, Bonnie, Taylor (Jennifer’s daughter and Bonnie’s granddaughter), Meredith (Greg’s wife, who didn’t take the class) and Jennifer. (Mary Jane, not pictured, couldn’t attend the party, and Stephen was busy with his chef duties during this photo.) After all, the Disciple class was an intense 9-month undertaking and I found out I was pregnant with Houston only a month into the class, so Disciple will always remind me of my first pregnancy and my first pregnancy will always remind me of Disciple. All of our pals were looking forward to meeting and holding Houston. Not a problem, right?! He has never been especially clingy to me and Stephen. It always seemed like if someone was willing to hold and play with him, Houston couldn’t really care less who it was. Plus, he had just done so great in Charleston, hanging around with a bunch of folks he had never met, that surely he would be fine and dandy with meeting our Disciple friends. Well, turns out that only Mommy or Daddy would do this evening. I suppose he’s going through a phase, now that his object permanence is increasing and he is beginning to understand that there is indeed a person to call Mommy and Daddy; we’re not just part of a crew that happens to look alike and love him as much as the last twin. Anyway, he didn’t let Bonnie and J-Lo cuddle with him like they (and I) had hoped, but they still got to spend some quality time with our Houston boy. Moreover, Houston and Taylor are becoming quick buddies and they had a fun time playing around. Houston’s 1st Halloween

Houston dresses up as a monkee!

Houston dressed up as a monkee for his very first Halloween. The two of us went trick-or-treating with our neighbors from Massachusetts (Shawn, Milt and Dixie), while Stephen stayed at home to give out candy. Houston handled being out in the cold, meeting strangers and seeing lots of kids dressed up in scary costumes like a champ! He seemed to have a great time and all the adults in our neighborhood loved seeing him and Dixie (who is about 14 months old and dressed up as a pumpkin) out celebrating the fun, despite their very young ages. Shawn and I joke that our youngins would make a cool couple one day; after all, who would want to mess with a couple named Houston and Dixie?! For more Halloween pics, click here. Also, I added some more photos to Houston’s “October 2007” album in gallery. Check ’em out.
